Olympics 2012

The Ramblers hopes that the Olympics will provide an opportunity to encourage people to go walking. Can groups plan some short, easy walks with links to the games?


Next year there will be a Get Walking Weekend over the bank holiday weekend 26th - 28th May with London 2012 as the theme.

Overseas Challenge - China - Kilimanjaro - Indian Cycle - Peru - Sahara. Dates Available for 2011 and 2012.  Adventures to sponsor and raise money for this charity.

Washburn Heritage Centre at Fewston Church

Washburn Heritage Centre, attached to the seventeenth century Fewston church, has changing displays about aspects of the Washburn Valley, which is very popular with walkers.  The church now has displays about the church, the valley and the reservoirs.  A path, put in by Yorkshire Water, leads from the north bank of Swinsty Reservoir up to the centre and church, so they are just a short walk from Stack Point car park.
 
There is a full range of activities, such as lectures, workshops and guided walks, at the Centre and there is a tea room during regular opening hours on weekends and bank holidays in summer and Sundays and bank holidays in winter.  The Centre is also available for hire.  Full details are available on the Centre’s website at

Diabetes UK

Oxfam Trailtrekker 2012

Trailtrekker is an incredible team walking challenge in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Teams of four attempt to cover either the Bronze (40km), Silver (65km) or Gold (100km) course, non-stop, staying together at all times.

Mourne International Walking Festival

In Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland

Taking place on the 22nd - 24th June 2012. The mountains and the surrounding area offer some of the best walking in Ireland.

Taking place between 8th and 23rd September 2012

Walking, cycling, horse riding.

Pickering’s Third Annual Walking Festival

Taking place on the 20th - 22nd April 2012.

Over the week there will be 12 walks of varying distances and terrain to suit everyone.

2012 Wadsworth Parish Boundary Walk

Taking place on the 10th June 2012.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge aims at raising money for local charities. Walks through the Hardcastle Crags and Luddenden Valley area. Full walk 21 miles but with shorter option.
